It’s 16th meets 17th in League One on Boxing Day as Walsall travel a short distance to take on Port Vale at Vale Park.

Port Vale come into this fixture level on points with their rivals, but sit one place behind them on goal difference. They’ve really struggled of late, having failed to win for the last five games, and only having won once in their last ten. Form like that often spells trouble, and they can consider themselves lucky not to have been dragged into the relegation zone yet. Their last game ended in a a 4-0 hammering by play-off hunting AFC Wimbledon.

Walsall are also struggling of late, and have only won twice in their last ten fixtures. In fact, they have only won six games all season, and only Shrewsbury, Coventry and Oldham have won fewer, all of who are in the relegation zone.  They will have been happy with a draw in their last game against Bradford City, but manager Jon Whitney will know that he needs to get wins on the board again before too long.
